Position: Project Coordinator- Business

Job Summary:

Fetola are Cape Town based business growth professionals specialising in enterprise and supplier development. Our purpose is to accelerate the success of hundreds of small businesses across the country. The company has a small head office in Cape Town with a national network of stakeholders. This is an exciting operations role for a capable, energetic individual to be responsible for coordinating the successful implementation of our programmes, with a focus on finance.

Located in Cape Town, you will assist with implementation; including planning, roll out & monitoring of growth support for entrepreneurs in a range of sectors nationally. The role requires an understanding of business, an interest business development, proven analytical skills, and a passion for problem-solving. You should have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Experience and Training:

  • University degree in Business Management, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Social Sciences or related
  • Prior work experience, 1-2 years in similar field
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite
  • Administrative background
  • An interest in innovative solutions to social and environmental challenges (social entrepreneurship) would be advantageous but not essential.

Core Competencies:

Proven project co-ordination skills, effective written and verbal communications, and the ability to work efficiently without close supervision.  Strong computer literacy skills are essential.   Candidate should have a passion for, and skill in solving problems, meticulous and detail-orientated.   Our staff are self-motivated, flexible, open to learning and enthusiastic, culturally sensitive and personable, and we priorities these qualities in recruitment.   Fast learning essential, reliability and the ability to prioritise & manage own time and work collaboratively within teams.  Public presentation skills are advantageous.

Key Tasks:

  • Coordinate programme implementation, (monitoring, training, mentoring etc)
  • Maintain regular contact with programme participants and link this progress to the programme framework
  • Work with a support team
  • Provide programme related support to programme participants
  • Coordinate data-gathering showing participant progress
  • Conduct analysis of Key performance indicators and assist with reporting according to programme reporting frameworks

This is an exciting dual role for a capable, energetic individual to be responsible for coordinating the successful implementation of our programmes, and assist with the development and maintenance of information systems within the organisation.

The chosen candidate will assist with roll out & monitoring of growth support for entrepreneurs in a range of sectors nationally. The candidate will play an important role in identifying, creating and implementing new information systems and technology solutions in the organisation.The role requires proven analytical skills, and a passion for problem solving and IS skills.


Experience and Training:

  1. University degree in Business Management, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Information Systems or related
  2. Proven Information Systems skills
  3. Prior work experience, 1-2 years in similar field
  4. Database management experience
  5. Advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite
  6. SQL and MySQL experience (non-negotiable)

Proven project management skills, effective written and verbal communications, the ability to work effectively without close supervision, and comfort with technology is required. Candidate should have a passion for, and skill in solving problems, and be meticulous and detail-orientated. Candidate should be self-motivated, flexible, open to learning and enthusiastic, culturally sensitive and personable; as well as a keen fast learner, able to prioritise and manage own time. In short, they should be a reliable and committed team member.


Key Tasks:

General

  1. To coordinate programme implementation (monitoring, training, mentoring etc.); and
  2. Maintain contact with the local participating entrepreneurs and link this progress to the national programme framework.

Information Systems

  1. Day to day maintenance of IT infrastructure;
  2. Creating new or improving data processing solutions;
  3. Internal IT skills training – as required; and
  4. Website and email maintenance.

Position: Business Mentor                                        

  • Reporting to: Senior Business Mentor (Cape Town)
  • Fees Bracket:  R 500 – 750 per hour
  • Employment Type: Short-term contract/part-time basis
  • Location: National

Over the past ten years as leading SME-growth facilitators, Fetola’s pool of mentors has become the cornerstone to our success – working nationally with mostly black-owned, rural, women and youth-owned businesses (ranging from early stage to R20m turnover).

We are proud of the quality, commitment and capabilities of our mentors, and our on-going professional development programme ensures their continued enthusiasm and skill. Fetola mentor selection is a competitive process, as we identify those who demonstrate passion, interpersonal and technical skills, and a proven ability to empower others.

Individuals with entrepreneurial experience, practical business skills, a solutions-focused approach and an empathetic interpersonal style are invited to apply.  This includes mentors from all sectors, with a range of skills including sales, marketing, costing and pricing, finance management, human resource management, engineering services, agro-processing etc. Our appointment of mentors is dependent on the nature, location and numbers of SMEs in need of assistance, currently with a greater need in the more rural provinces.


Minimum Requirements

Education or Qualification: University Degree or Diploma preferred.

Experience and/or Training: 15+ years of hands-on business experience. Own business/entrepreneurial experience and basic computer skills required.


Core Competencies: Demonstrated skills & practical experience in business; relevant life experience and entrepreneurial exposure; and well networked with proven ability to contribute materially to the continual improvement and growth of SMEs.

We require candidates who are personally presentable, professional and with a positive outlook; flexible and adaptable, self-motivated, enthusiastic and results driven; culturally sensitive and with friendly open personalities who are able to create a ‘safe space’ for learning.


Job Overview:

You will be responsible for assessing the needs of the business and entrepreneur, and provide appropriate mentorship to selected entrepreneurs in a range of sectors, across peri-urban and rural areas of the country. Your specific role will then be to facilitate appropriate changes, increase confidence and practical skills, and support market/growth opportunities.  We require candidates who have high-energy levels, a passionate commitment to making a difference, and an encouraging results-driven, yet empathetic nature.

You will work closely with your mentor-manager, and provide real-time feedback on progress via our online system.
