Position: Half Day Bookkeeper

  • Location: Western Cape, Cape Town, Plumstead
  • Start Date:  Immediately
  • Salary: R10 000 – R12 000

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced book keeper to join a dynamic and passionate team of people who are making a difference to South Africa. Fetola requires a qualified and experienced half day bookkeeper. This is a new position to absorb additional workload. You will need to have a high level of competency and be comfortable taking responsibility for your tasks, and working independently from your senior manager to achieve results. Proactive, timely implementation and problem solving skills are essential.

Candidates must have experience in the following:

  1. Monthly management accounts;
  2. Budgets;
  3. Funder reporting;
  4. VAT;
  5. Ability to work with multiple companies;
  6. Legal requirements – BBBEE / TCC; and
  7. Audits.

Minimum job requirements

Education or qualification:  Relevant finance qualification/bookkeeping qualification.

Experience and/or training: Minimum 10 years experience, advanced computer skills, Pastel Accounting and funder reporting and budgeting advantageous.

Duties include but not limited to:

Bookkeeping and financial administration

  • Maintain accurate, up to date records of all financial transactions.
  • Assist with capturing of monthly accounting information on Pastel.
  • Prepare and present VAT, PAYE and UIF returns for payment.
  • Maintain daily filing and record-keeping systems – including invoicing, debtors and creditors, petty cash etc.

Legislative/statutory obligations

  • Maintain all legislative returns are submitted as required by law, including SARS, Dept. of Labour, CIPRO, Tax clearance certificates, insurance, Workman’s compensation, BEE certification etc.)
  • Alert the Company /Financial Director of any compliance/Legislative matters of concern.

Administrative records and related admin

  • Maintain appropriate orderly record-keeping and admin systems to ensure up to date project and company records, both digitally and in hard copy.

Job Summary:

Fetola are Cape Town based business growth professionals specialising in enterprise and supplier development. Our purpose is to accelerate the success of hundreds of small businesses across the country. The company has a small head office in Plumstead with a national network of stakeholders. This is an exciting dual role for a capable, energetic individual to be responsible for coordinating the successful implementation of our programmes, and assist with the development and maintenance of information systems within the organisation.

The chosen candidate will assist with roll out & monitoring of growth support for entrepreneurs in a range of sectors nationally. The candidate will play an important role in identifying, creating and implementing new information systems and technology solutions in the organisation.The role requires proven analytical skills, and a passion for problem solving and IS skills.

Experience and Training:

  1. University degree in Business Management, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Information Systems or related
  2. Proven Information Systems skills
  3. Prior work experience, 1-2 years in similar field
  4. Database management experience
  5. Advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite
  6. SQL and MySQL experience (non-negotiable)

Core Competencies:

Proven project management skills, effective written and verbal communications, the ability to work effectively without close supervision, and comfort with technology is required. Candidate should have a passion for, and skill in solving problems, and be meticulous and detail-orientated. Key Tasks:


  1. To coordinate programme implementation (monitoring, training, mentoring etc.); and
  2. Maintain contact with the local participating entrepreneurs and link this progress to the national programme framework.

Information Systems

  1. Day to day maintenance of IT infrastructure;
  2. Creating new or improving data processing solutions;
  3. Internal IT skills training – as required; and

You will work closely with your mentor-manager, and provide real-time feedback on progress via our online system.

Brenda Magwizi

Brenda joined Fetola through the intern programme in 2012 and is an Assistant Project Coordinator on the Old Mutual Legends Programme. She holds a Master’s degree in Commerce (Financial Markets) from Rhodes University, and is passionate about the effect that finance has on sustainable socio-economic development in Africa. Brenda hails from Zimbabwe and has an interest in languages, including Russian.


Thantaswa Matshobongwa

Thantaswa completed her Diploma in Marketing in 2012 at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Previously she worked at the City of Cape Town as an Intern, where she gained the experience that enabled her to be selected as one of the Fetola team, with a special focus on Legends. Her role includes interviewing prospective candidates, assisting with project implementation and interacting with beneficiaries, providing them with support and assistance.
