Position: Internship/ Junior – Human Resources Assistant

Stipend: from R 4500

Job Summary:

Fetola, South Africa’s leading independent small business growth specialists urgently need an HR intern/ Junior Assistant to handle a variety of personnel related and business duties. Your role is to act as the liaison between the HR manager and employees, ensuring smooth communication and prompt resolution of all queries. You will also support our daily HR and training activities and assist in coordinating HR policies, processes and relevant documents.


Roles and responsibilities:

Our ideal candidate holds a degree in business or Human Resources and has some work experience with Human Resources Management. You will assist in recruitment including drafting and posting job ads, candidate sourcing, coordinating interviews, reference checks, onboarding process of new hires and assist with training administrative duties. Additionally, you will support HR-related administrative duties, compile and update employee records, and prepare reports relating to personnel activities (staffing, recruitment, training, performance evaluations etc).


Experience and Training:

  • A degree in Business or Human Resources Management
  • Experience as an HR assistant, staff assistant or relevant human resources/administrative/ recruitment experience (advantageous)
  • Excellent public speaking, facilitation skills (advantageous)
  • Basic knowledge of labour law
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills
  • Computer literate with advanced MS Office skills preferred
  • Innovative thinking and strong leadership advantageous

Position: Project Manager – Sustainability

Employment: Permanent

Location: Cape Town and Johannesburg

Salary: from R30,000 (salary will depend on experience)

Our purpose is to accelerate the lasting success of hundreds of small businesses across the country. The company has a small head office in Plumstead with a national network of service providers. This exciting new role will suit a capable, energetic and experienced individual keen to implement our project/s.

The project manager will ensure professional skills development are provided to entrepreneurs in the Fetola green sector/sustainability projects, and assist in the continual improvement of Fetola’s green sector/sustainability understanding and positioning in the market.


Experience and Training:

  • We are seeking a degreed candidate with combined qualifications in Business Management / Business Science and Environmental and Geographical Science / Sustainability Studies.
  • 8-10 years’ prior work experience in Project management or similar field
  • Excellent spoken and written English – public presentation skills would be advantageous
  • Innovative thinking and strong leadership advantageous
  • A good understanding of the policy frameworks and relevant institutions & organisations involved in promoting the green economy
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite

Roles and responsibilities:

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Project Management of Sustainability/ green sector projects
  • Design and implementation of technical /sustainability components of projects
  • Support on green sector/sustainability proposal writing,
  • Green sector/ sustainability information gathering

Core Competencies:

 Proven project management skills, effective written and verbal communications, teamwork and the ability to drive results without close supervision. Candidate should have a passion and skill for solving problems, be meticulous and detail-orientated. Candidate should be self-motivated, open to learning and enthusiastic, culturally sensitive and personable; as well as a keen fast learner, able to prioritise and manage own time. The ability to listen to, understand and follow instructions, and the willingness to be proactive and self-reliant in the solving of problems and completion of tasks is expected. Position: Business Mentor                                        

  • Reporting to: Senior Business Mentor (Cape Town)
  • Fees Bracket:  R 500 – 750 per hour
  • Employment Type: Short-term contract/part-time basis
  • Location: National

Over the past ten years as leading SME-growth facilitators, Fetola’s pool of mentors has become the cornerstone of our success – working nationally with mostly black-owned, rural, women and youth-owned businesses (ranging from early stage to R20m turnover).

We are proud of the quality, commitment and capabilities of our mentors, and our on-going professional development programme ensures their continued enthusiasm and skill. Fetola mentor selection is a competitive process, as we identify those who demonstrate passion, interpersonal and technical skills, and a proven ability to empower others.

Individuals with entrepreneurial experience, practical business skills, a solutions-focused approach and an empathetic interpersonal style are invited to apply.  This includes mentors from all sectors, with a range of skills including sales, marketing, costing and pricing, finance management, human resource management, engineering services, agro-processing etc. Our appointment of mentors is dependent on the nature, location and numbers of SMEs in need of assistance, currently with a greater need in the more rural provinces.


Minimum Requirements

Education or Qualification: University Degree or Diploma preferred.

Experience and/or Training: 15+ years of hands-on business experience. Own business/entrepreneurial experience and basic computer skills required.

Demonstrated skills & practical experience in business; relevant life experience and entrepreneurial exposure; and well networked with proven ability to contribute materially to the continual improvement and growth of SMEs.

Job Overview:

You will be responsible for assessing the needs of the business and entrepreneur and provide appropriate mentorship to selected entrepreneurs in a range of sectors, across peri-urban and rural areas of the country. Your specific role will then be to facilitate appropriate changes, increase confidence and practical skills, and support market/growth opportunities.  We require candidates who have high-energy levels, a passionate commitment to making a difference, and an encouraging results-driven, yet empathetic nature.

You will work closely with your mentor-manager, and provide real-time feedback on progress via our online system.
