GIFT Warehouse 2006/7

GIFT (now known as Handmade Cape) is a trading initiative of the Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI), designed and implemented in 2006/2007 by Fetola. Funded by Old Mutual Foundation to the tune of R2-million, GIFT provides an essential link between craft producers and corporate gift buyers, facilitating exchanges between maker and market.

GIFT is about creating access to markets

GIFT was developed through the CCDI as part of its ongoing market access programme, aimed at increasing the total market size for locally produced products and increasing ease of access for crafters to these markets. GIFT is focused on providing a socially responsible gifting option for buyers with a strong desire to contribute to the economic future of South Africa. Products are all hand made in South Africa – with a strong Western Cape focus – and are sourced from a range of community projects, black owned businesses and other socially responsible producers.

Fetola was the chief design and implementation consultant on the GIFT project, a contract that spanned twelve months and incorporated physical space design, business systems development and training, sourcing of suppliers, branding and corporate ID development, marketing and sales strategy, coordinating of official Launch and everything involved in setting up a new business model from scratch.

To date the project has been successful, and continues to grow from strength to strength thanks to the solid foundation laid during the development phase.
