How to use the Profit Calculator
Step 1: Fill in all the information in the blue blocks. If you do not know exact costs, try and estimate as closely as possible. When calculating labour, work out how long an item takes to make, and times that by an appropriate hourly rate.
Step 2: The template will automatically add on 30% towards the costs of your overheads (rent, salaries, electricity, telephone, transport). You can amend this if you feel it should be higher or lower.
Step 3: Change your selling price until you achieve a gross profit margin (the profit you make before paying overheads like rent, electricity etc) of at least 50%, or an operating profit margin (the profit you make after all your overheads have been paid) of around 40%.
